Recovery From Breast Surgery

After any breast surgery you will wear surgical dressings or a special post-surgical garment for the first few days. Often a post-surgical bra is worn for several weeks following your surgery. Any pain or discomfort that occurs can be controlled with medication prescribed by your surgeon, which is taken orally. In addition to that, antibiotics may also be prescribed. There will most likely be symptoms of swelling, tenderness, and bruising, which should subside over a short while. Any sutures will be removed within 1 to 2 weeks and your surgeon will let you know when you may begin to resume your normal scheduled activites. The majority of patients will be back to work within the first week of recovery. For patients who have breast reduction surgery, recovery takes a little longer.
